2014 Domaine Dujac "Les Gruenchers", Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru, France
Domaine Dujac's journey from its inception in 1968 to the present day is a tale of passion, commitment, and an unwavering dedication to the art of winemaking. From the historic sites of Morey-Saint-Denis to the newly acquired vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet, each bottle reflects the Seysses family's respect for terroir, sustainable practices, and the timeless pursuit of crafting wines that embody the true spirit of Burgundy.
The winemaking philosophy at Domaine Dujac revolves around balance, freshness, and a non-interventionist approach. The whole-bunch fermentation method, with minimal destemming, allows the authenticity of the grapes to shine through. Indigenous yeasts, careful elevage in oak barrels, and a meticulous focus on refining tannins contribute to the creation of wines that are elegant, supple, and reflective of their terroir.
Vineyard notes: Les Gruenchers is a lieu-dit north of the village of Chambolle-Musigny, at the foot of the hill, where the slope is only slight (less than 5%). Ranging in altitude from 266 to 273 meters, this lieu-dit faces southeast. The soil is 40 to 50 cm thick, and very stony, with jagged fragments of Premeaux limestone, and flint-like chert nodules (chailles). The substratum at Les Gruenchers is composed of Premeaux limestone.
93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The Gruenchers was one of the 2014s I tasted out of a new cask and the wine was showing very well indeed. The bouquet offers up a lovely blend of black cherries, plums, raw cocoa, gamebird, a superb base of soil, a touch of mustard seed and a generous serving of spicy oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and laser-like in its focus, with a sappy core, suave tannins, bright acids and lovely transparency on the long and vibrant finish. A beautiful Gruenchers in the making."
90-92 points Wine Advocate: "Aromas of raspberries, spices, smoked duck and espresso roast, framed by a deft application of new wood, introduce the Mugnerets' 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village, a medium to full-bodied, lively and nicely concentrated wine with fine tannins, a ripe core of fruit and a nicely defined, energetic finish. Since La Colombière was bottled separately this year, the 2018 represents a blend of lieux-dits Les Chalendins, Le Pré de la Folie, Les Champs Gourdin and Les Croix Blanches." (NM)
90-92 points Vinous: “Bright, dark red. Precise, high-pitched aromas of red cherry, raspberry and flowers accented by a note of blood orange. Delicate, juicy and sharply chiseled, conveying superb inner-mouth verve and lift thanks to the well-judged stem element. Wonderfully intense, dynamic Chambolle premier cru with excellent finishing lift and length.” (ST)
